+ WHY WORK WITH BOSTON EXPLORERS?
Boston Explorers counselors have as much an opportunity as children to explore the city and learn about and experience in depth some of the behind the scenes and special places in the city. In a world where children’s out-of-school time is often highly scripted and regulated, Boston Explorers provides counselors with an opportunity for freedom and spontaneity while supervising and mentoring youngsters.
+ WHAT IS A TYPICAL DAY LIKE?
The camp day for children is 9 a.m.–4:30 p.m. (counselors arrive half an hour earlier and stay half an hour later). We start and end the day at base camp. When children arrive the counselors help them settle in and participate in a variety of “Your Choice” activities of their choosing such as gimp, drawing, games and outside play, followed by a morning meeting that welcomes children and frames the activities for the day. Unless there is a full-day excursion scheduled, children participate in a variety of hands-on and elective activities on site. Campers have a hand in preparing and serving two snacks, plus lunch, daily. The day ends with a closing circle back at the base camp where campers debrief and share highlights of the day.
+ WHAT ARE THE AGE GROUPS OF CAMPERS?
Campers range in age from 7 to 15.
+ WHAT TO WEAR?
When thinking about attire, keep in mind that campers look up to counselors. Counselors are role models whom campers will often try to emulate. Each counselor will be given five Boston Explorers t-shirts that they are required to wear every day. For safety, closed-toe footwear with socks is mandatory.
