Camper FAQ
» Where is the camp?
The camp is located at the Union United Methodist Church at 485 Columbus Avenue in Boston’s South End. We call this our “base camp” where we start and end every day.
» How old do I have to be?
Campers must be going into the 4th thru 8th grade in the September following camp. Typically, most campers are ages 9-14.
» How do I get to camp?
Families are responsible for transporting children to and from camp. The camp is within easy walking distance of Mass Ave and Back Bay T stations on the Orange Line. Click here for directions.
» What do I need to bring?
We’ll provide a Boston Explorers towel and water bottle. You will need to bring:
- Backpack
- Comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting dirty or wet
- Sweatshirt, fleece or jacket
- Sneakers (No sandals)
- Bathing suit
- Sunscreen
- Rain jacket (We go out even when it’s drizzling or raining.)
» How much does it cost?
Camp tuition is $900 per two-week session and includes:
- Lunch and two snacks everyday
- Ferry tickets and admission fees for special places
- Boston Explorers t-shirt
Financial Aid is available for all families who qualify.

» Who works there?
Most of the staff comprises college students who grew up in Boston or the surrounding area. Counselors are hired because they want to work with young people and are excited about exploring Boston with campers. Learn more about the staff at the Staff page.
» Where do campers come from?
Campers come from all different neighborhoods in Boston and the surrounding area and represent many different cultures, backgrounds, races and religions.
» How do I sign up for the camp?
